Commissioning a Custom Acrylic Painting: Size, Price and Process

A custom acrylic painting is an original work made on canvas around your chosen dimensions and overall direction. It is not a literal copy of a supplied image. For the commission to progress well, the wall dimensions, colour expectations and anything you do not want should be stated at the outset. Peck Art Studio currently calculates acrylic paintings from TRY 15,000 per square metre. The final quote is confirmed after the reference and dimensions have been reviewed.

Measure the wall before commissioning#

Size is not decided by whether a canvas merely fits the empty wall. Consider the width of the furniture below it, ceiling height and viewing distance. A painting only 60 cm wide will often look undersized above a 200 cm sofa. A width around 120 to 140 cm may be a more balanced starting point.

Mark the proposed dimensions on the wall with paper tape and leave them there for a day. Check the outline at different hours. Does an open door enter the area, does a lamp cast a shadow across it, and does the work sit too high while you are seated? A centre height between 145 and 152 cm is commonly useful. Above furniture, a gap of 15 to 25 cm between its top and the bottom of the canvas usually feels comfortable.

The painting size guide explains wall and furniture proportions in more detail. If the dimensions remain uncertain, add a straight-on photograph and the width of the wall to the custom order form.

Prepare a useful visual brief#

A clear brief is more useful than dozens of unrelated pictures. Choose two or four references and say what interests you in each. You may like the colour transition in one and the use of empty space in another. Sending links without notes leaves the artist unsure which detail matters.

Include these points from the start:

  • Canvas width and height in centimetres
  • A photograph of the wall and nearby furniture
  • Two principal colours to retain
  • Colours or forms you definitely do not want
  • Whether the piece should be horizontal or vertical

A custom acrylic commission does not mean a photographic human portrait service. Peck Art Studio commissions are acrylic compositions made in the artist's own visual language. Copies of another artist's work and forged signatures are not offered. That boundary protects the originality of the work and sets an honest expectation.

How the price is calculated#

The live calculator currently uses TRY 15,000 per square metre for an acrylic painting, with a minimum commission price of TRY 3,500. A 60x80 cm canvas is 0.48 m², giving a basic area calculation of TRY 7,200. A 100x100 cm canvas is 1 m², so its basic calculation is TRY 15,000. These figures are preliminary; the final quote follows a review of the composition and size.

A wooden frame is currently an optional TRY 2,000 extra. A frame is not compulsory. The finish on the canvas edges determines whether it can hang well without one. Use the live custom order page rather than a price found in an old article or social post.

The entire fee is not taken at the beginning. The present process starts with a 30 percent deposit. Once dimensions and the design direction are approved, the deposit places the work in the production schedule. The balance and delivery details should be confirmed in writing during the order conversation.

Design and approval#

The first stage establishes dimensions, orientation and palette. A composition draft follows. It does not reproduce every future brush mark; it communicates placement, principal colour distribution and the focal area. Feedback needs to be specific at this stage. “Make it better” offers no workable direction, while “reduce the dark area at upper left” does.

Canvas preparation and painting begin after approval. Acrylic paint dries quickly at the surface, yet some areas still require layered work. Once complete, the surface rests before the edges are checked and the piece is packed. The current estimated lead time is 21 days. Size and composition can affect it, so mention a fixed birthday or moving date before ordering.

A complete change of composition after production starts may create a new scope. Take time over the draft approval. There may also be modest differences between colours seen on a screen and real acrylic paint because devices and room lighting vary.

Ready work versus a commission#

With a ready painting, you see the completed surface, actual dimensions and current price before buying. If one fits, delivery is also quicker than commissioning. In the painting collection, Matching Socks is a 60x70 cm acrylic priced at TRY 5,000, Arta Kalan is a 60x70 cm work at TRY 7,000, and Tını is a 60x80 cm work at TRY 15,000. Availability and prices can change, so check each live artwork page when deciding.

A commission makes sense when the wall calls for a particular size or colour relationship. A ready work is chosen for the character you can already see. With a commission, you join the process and approve a draft. The ready or custom painting guide compares both routes in detail.

Read delivery and return terms first#

A work made to personal dimensions and preferences follows different withdrawal rules from a ready product. If a commission is cancelled before production starts, the advance payment is refunded without deduction. Once work begins, the personalised-goods exception may apply. Legal rights remain where an item arrives damaged, defective or materially different from what was agreed. Binding details are set out in the distance sales agreement and delivery and return terms.

If you have a fixed size, two principal colours and a wall photograph, begin with the custom order form. Its calculation is preliminary; the artist confirms the exact scope after reviewing the image and dimensions.
