Ready-Made or Custom Painting: Which Should You Choose?

A ready-made painting is bought after you have seen the completed work. A custom painting is produced for your order after dimensions and overall direction are approved. Choose ready work when speed and certainty matter. A commission may suit a fixed wall size or colour requirement better. Budget, timing and the amount of design input you want make the decision clearer.

What ready-made work gives you#

There is less uncertainty. Product photographs show the painted surface, colour distribution, edges and actual dimensions. The price is fixed. Where online checkout is available, you can proceed directly from the artwork page. Ready works are packed and handed to the carrier within 1 to 3 business days after payment confirmation.

That speed matters if a gift date is close or an empty wall needs resolving soon. You do not wait for the estimated 21-day commission period. If an existing painting immediately holds your attention, making modest adjustments to its placement can also feel more natural than designing a new object around the room.

When a commission makes sense#

A non-standard wall makes ready work harder to find. A 45 cm column, a 220 cm sideboard or a room with a tightly defined colour relationship may justify custom dimensions. A commission is not an enlargement of an existing work. The artist creates a new composition in response to the approved dimensions and direction.

It is a better fit when:

• The wall dimensions do not suit available work
• A horizontal or vertical ratio is fixed
• Two principal room colours need to appear in the work
• An opening, move or business project calls for a specific size
• You want to take part through draft approval

Comparing the prices#

A ready work carries the price shown on its product page and is not recalculated by size. Two ready pieces with the same dimensions may have different prices because their technique, production and character differ. Paintings currently available in the gallery range from TRY 2,000 to TRY 20,000.

A custom acrylic currently receives a preliminary calculation at TRY 15,000 per square metre, with a TRY 3,500 minimum. A 60x80 cm canvas is 0.48 m², giving a basic calculation of TRY 7,200. An 80x100 cm work is 0.8 m² and gives TRY 12,000. A wooden frame is currently an optional TRY 2,000 extra. The final price is confirmed after the dimensions and references are reviewed.

A commission enters the production schedule with a 30 percent deposit. For a ready work with online checkout, the full total is collected at payment. Do not compare the figures by centimetres alone. Ready work means choosing a finished unique object. A commission also includes a new design and production time.

How flexible are you about dimensions?#

Test the wall first. Above a 180 cm sideboard, a work around 110 to 130 cm wide may feel balanced. If a ready piece is 100 cm wide, the extra space on each side may not be a problem. If it is only 50 cm wide, the wall composition may feel weak.

Use paper tape to mark both the actual size of the ready work and the proposed custom size. View them from the seat and in evening light. Do not dismiss an existing work merely because it is 10 or 15 percent smaller. Decide whether the surrounding empty space appears intentional.

A frame increases the outside dimensions. Check whether the size on a product page refers to the artwork surface or the framed whole. If a commission includes a wooden frame, ask for the total outside dimensions before approval.

Timing may decide for you#

A ready work is prepared for dispatch within 1 to 3 business days after payment. Carrier transit is separate. For a wedding, anniversary or opening, allow for transit and contact the studio before ordering.

The current estimated commission period is 21 days. A delayed draft approval or a change of size can affect the start. If the date is fixed, do not treat day 21 as the event date. Leave room for packing and delivery. Where the date is close, a gallery work may be the safer choice.

Return terms differ#

Ready products sold through the gallery carry a 14-day withdrawal right after delivery. Responsibility may arise if handling beyond ordinary inspection reduces the item's value. Do not discard the protective packing as soon as it arrives.

A painting produced to personal dimensions and preferences may fall within the personalised-goods exception. If it is cancelled before production starts, the advance is refunded without deduction. Legal rights remain where work arrives damaged or materially different from what was agreed. The current binding terms appear on the delivery and returns page.

Choose the route that fits the decision#

If you love a visible work, have tested its dimensions on the wall and need it soon, browse the ready paintings. If the dimensions are fixed, the room's colour relationship is decisive and there is space for a 21-day making period, use the custom order form.

When uncertain, check the gallery first. If nothing fits, move to a commission with a wall photograph, dimensions and two colour preferences. That tells you whether producing from scratch is genuinely necessary.
