Ready-Made or Custom Tufted Art: Which Should You Choose?

The central difference between ready-made tufted art and a custom commission is straightforward. With a ready piece, you choose the finished, one-off work you can already see. With a commission, the size and image are developed around your space and idea. A ready piece suits someone who wants a quick decision and a complete view of every detail. A commission suits a particular wall, palette or personal subject.

Both routes involve handwork. The choice is not about one being better made. It is about how much control you want over the design and when you need the work.

What a ready-made tufted piece offers#

A ready piece has been finished, photographed and measured. You can inspect its colour, surface and overall shape before paying, so there is little room for surprise. Baby Tiger, for example, is a unique 60x90 cm tufted piece made with acrylic yarn. Its artwork page shows its current price, dimensions and purchase status together.

The practical advantages are clear:

• You decide from photographs of the actual finished work.
• There is no production queue. Once paid, a ready work is packed and handed to the carrier within 1 to 3 business days, as stated in the delivery terms.
• Where online checkout is enabled on the artwork page, payment is completed on PayTR's secure payment page. Card details are not entered on Peck Art Studio.
• Ready products in the gallery carry a 14-day withdrawal right after delivery. The legal conditions and return steps are set out on the delivery page.

This route works well for a birthday, a housewarming gift or an empty wall that needs attention soon. The limitation is equally plain. The size cannot be enlarged after completion, the colours cannot be changed and the design cannot be adapted into another logo. You are buying that exact work.

What changes with a custom commission#

A custom order still begins with something concrete: a photograph, drawing, name, logo or colour direction. The first conversation establishes whether the work will hang on a wall or be used on the floor, its intended dimensions and its palette. A design draft follows. Production does not begin before you approve it.

A commission makes sense when:

• The available wall demands a specific size
• A pet photograph, family symbol or name must appear
• A logo needs to follow brand colours
• You like the approach of a ready piece but its proportions do not fit
• A gift needs a detail that belongs only to its recipient

Not every image transfers into yarn unchanged. Small lettering, hairline contours and dozens of photographic shadows often need simplification on a tufted surface. Draft approval therefore checks more than appearance. It also proves that the design can be made. For a portrait reference, a sharp subject, even lighting and a quiet background make that translation easier.

There is no single price label for custom work. A larger size requires more yarn, backing cloth, sealer and working time. Colour changes, tight curves and the density of detail also affect the quote. The final scope is recorded in writing when the draft and order summary are approved.

Two decisions for the same wall#

Imagine a 100 cm-wide space above a sofa. If the gallery has a finished 60x90 cm work whose colours suit the room, mark its footprint with paper tape and decide from photographs of the actual object. Its product-page price is fixed; the making cost will not change later. Only the delivery charge shown in the order summary is added.

The same wall requires a different route if you want a family drawing or an exact 70x100 cm piece. The custom form assesses dimensions, placement and the reference together. The current calculator rate for wall work is TRY 9,000 per square metre, with a TRY 3,500 minimum order. A 70x100 cm piece covers 0.70 m², but detail, outline and selected extras mean the final quote is not a simple area calculation. Rely on the written order summary after the draft has been reviewed, not a rounded figure given before the design is seen.

The difference in timing#

A ready work exists; a custom one still has to be made. Ready purchases involve payment, packing and carriage. A commission adds discussion, image simplification, draft approval, yarn selection, tufting, carving, sealing and drying.

A universal lead time would be misleading. Dimensions and detail change the schedule. Your estimated production and delivery time is supplied in writing before order approval. If the work must arrive for a birthday, opening or another fixed date, include that date in the first message. It is safer to learn that the calendar will not work before production begins.

The important difference in returns#

Ready and personalised works do not have identical return terms. Ready products sold through the gallery carry the statutory right of withdrawal. A piece made to a customer's selected dimensions, name, photograph or logo may fall under the exception for goods made to personal requirements.

That exception does not remove your rights if a work arrives damaged, defective or materially different from the agreed order. The delivery and returns terms also state that a custom order cancelled before production actually begins receives a full refund of any advance payment. Checking the draft, dimensions and colours before giving production approval protects both sides.

A short way to decide#

If your available space is around 60x90 cm and the colours and subject of Baby Tiger already feel right, commissioning a redraw adds nothing. Browse the tufted collection and compare completed works by dimensions and current price. Choosing the piece that already exists is quicker and more predictable.

If the starting point is a particular portrait, a business logo or an uncommon size, go directly to the custom order form. You can upload the reference and state the dimensions and intended use. The first reply can then address a workable design instead of an abstract request for a price.
