Is It Safe to Buy Handmade Art Online?

Buying handmade art online can be safe, but the decision should not rest on one attractive photograph. The seller's identity, the actual size of the work, the payment page and the delivery and return terms should all be visible before purchase. If those details remain vague, do not rush.

Works in the Peck Art Studio gallery are unique. An available artwork page places its dimensions, materials, current price and action together. Where checkout is enabled, payment moves to PayTR's secure page; card details are not entered on Peck Art Studio. As with any online purchase, you should still check the address bar and order summary yourself before paying.

Are the seller and artwork identifiable?#

A trust check starts with the artist's name. Look for an about page, a working contact route and a consistent gallery showing the same body of work. Be cautious with an account that only asks for payment by social message, omits dimensions or never identifies who made the object.

An artwork page should show at least:

• Title and artist
• Dimensions in centimetres
• Technique and materials
• Photographs of the actual object
• Current price or a clear route to request one
• Whether it is ready, sold or made to order

Mark the stated width and height on your wall with paper tape. A 60x90 cm work can appear small on a phone and occupy most of a narrow wall. Ask whether a frame or fringe is included in the dimensions if the page does not make that clear.

Do not rely on a single front-facing image. Views of the edge, reverse and close surface reveal more about a print, painted surface or tufted pile. Allow for a modest difference between the colour of a lit screen and real yarn or paint.

What to check on the payment page#

Any page collecting card details should use HTTPS. The browser should display the domain you expect or the secure page of an authorised payment provider. Read the address before opening an unfamiliar link sent through a message.

For ready works with online checkout at Peck Art Studio, the artwork page leads into payment. PayTR processes the transaction and the site does not store your card number. The order summary shows the work, sale price, any delivery charge and buyer details. Check the full amount before confirming.

If a seller requests a bank transfer or payment through messages, ask for the account name, business information and how the order will be recorded. Do not treat a screenshot as a proper record. Keep the written order confirmation and conversation. A tracking code or order number supplied after payment makes it easier to find the correct record if support is needed.

How a unique work is protected#

A unique work must not be sold to two people. Its availability is checked during the purchase flow and the item is closed for sale after payment succeeds. If somebody else has acquired the work or it is no longer available during checkout, the transaction should not complete.

That is why the live product page matters. The tufted collection and painting collection show currently available work in their respective categories. If you found a piece in an older social post, open its present artwork page before paying. The old post may not reflect its sale status.

Packing, delivery and your part at the door#

Ready works are packed and given to the carrier within 1 to 3 business days after payment confirmation. A custom commission receives its own estimated production time in writing before approval, based on size and detail. The general legal delivery limit and the studio's estimated making time are not the same thing. Read the date in the order summary.

Inspect the parcel while the courier is present. If it is crushed, torn, open or wet, do not accept it without a damage report prepared with the courier. If damage becomes visible only after opening an apparently sound parcel, photograph it and notify the seller within 3 days of delivery. Keep the packaging, since it may be needed for inspection.

A painting and a tufted piece need different protection. A rigid work requires corner and face protection. A textile surface must avoid sharp folds that crush the pile and must stay dry. Return rights depend on the product#

Ready works sold through the gallery carry a 14-day withdrawal right after delivery. The notice and return method are stated on the delivery page. If handling beyond ordinary inspection reduces the product's value, responsibility may arise. Once you decide to return a piece, preserve its protective packing and make the notice in writing rather than continuing to use it.

Work made with a customer's selected dimensions, name, photograph or logo is different. Goods prepared to personal requirements fall under an exception to the withdrawal right. If a commission is cancelled before production actually begins, any advance payment is refunded without deduction. Legal rights still apply where the product is defective, damaged or materially different from what was agreed.

Understand that distinction before ordering. Changing your mind about a ready work is not the same as withdrawing from a custom design you approved. The distance sales agreement and delivery terms are available before payment.

Authenticity and records#

Do not assume that a work is unique from its title alone. Read the artist, technique, year and dimensions. Peck Art Studio does not issue a separate certificate of authenticity; unique works carry a studio label on the reverse. Keep the invoice or payment record, a screenshot of the artwork page and delivery correspondence together. These records help years later when you need the measurements, technique or acquisition date. If the work is a gift, pass its care and product information to the recipient.

Final checks before purchase#

Read the dimensions, materials, price and availability on the product page. Then check the delivery address and total. Do not postpone reading the return terms until after payment. If the work must arrive for a fixed date, contact the studio first.

If the starting point is your own photograph, logo or dimensions, use the custom order form instead of buying a ready product. Choosing the correct purchase route reduces risk before you ever reach the payment screen.
