From Yarn to Art
Tufting Art
Original tufting wall hangings and textile works shaped through colour, texture and handcraft.
Tufting is a textile technique where yarn is punched into a stretched backing cloth with a tufting gun. Everything here was made by hand, not machine woven or factory produced.
The collection holds both wall pieces and rugs meant for the floor. Which one it is, its size and the yarn used are listed on each page. Tufting output is kept limited at the moment; the studio now leans toward painting.
Wall piece or floor rug?
They are built differently. Wall pieces use a lighter backing and come with a hanging fitting. Floor rugs get a non-slip backing and a more durable reverse. Buying a wall piece for a space with foot traffic shortens its life.
Yarn, texture and size
Acrylic and wool yarns are used. The surface can be left as cut pile or loop pile; the two catch light differently and feel different underfoot. Sizes are in centimetres, edges included.
Care and longevity
Handmade tufting lasts for years with regular care. A low-power vacuum is enough for dust; a brush head pulls at the pile. Blot spills immediately with a damp cloth and never scrub. Full care notes are in the guide below.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What is tufting?
- Punching yarn into a stretched backing cloth with a tufting gun. The result is a raised, tactile surface. What sets it apart from machine carpet is that every loop is placed by hand.
- Can I put it on the floor?
- Yes, if it was made as a floor rug. Pieces built as wall hangings are not designed for foot traffic and the pile flattens quickly. Each page states which one it is.
- How do I clean it?
- Vacuum with a brushless head and lift stains by blotting with a damp cloth. Never machine wash, scrub or dry clean. If it gets wet, dry it flat and out of direct sun.
- Can I order a custom size or design?
- Yes, both size and design can be worked out together. A calculator shows the price range up front based on square metres and technique. Densely detailed designs take longer to make.
- How long does delivery take?
- For a piece already in the collection, as long as shipping takes. For commissions it depends on size and detail, and an estimate is shown during the order steps.
