In this work, I explored the intersection of digital and traditional art, examining the relationship between reality and digital perception. I digitally reinterpreted a photograph of a friend using glitch and distortion effects before translating the resulting image onto canvas with acrylic paint. Through vivid colors, fragmented visual elements, and expressive brushstrokes, I explored the influence of the digital age on human perception. Bringing digital manipulation and traditional painting together, the work questions the increasingly blurred boundaries between the real and virtual worlds.
The Story
In this work, I explored the relationship between digital imagery and traditional painting through the shifting nature of human perception and the visual language of contemporary culture. Using a photograph of a friend as my starting point, I applied digital glitch, distortion, and image-degradation effects to transform the original photograph. I then translated the resulting digital composition onto canvas using acrylic paint, bringing two distinct artistic processes together on a single surface. Sharp color transitions, fragmented visual elements, and energetic brushstrokes combine the irregular, manipulated nature of digital imagery with the physical texture of traditional painting. Strong contrasts between yellow, orange, red, and darker tones intensify the visual energy of the portrait while transforming the way the figure is perceived. Drawing inspiration from glitch aesthetics and digital image manipulation, I investigated how technology reshapes our understanding of reality and how the human face can acquire new meanings through digital intervention. What begins as a digitally distorted photograph evolves into a tangible painting through the layered qualities of acrylic paint and the expressive movement of brushstrokes. By establishing a dialogue between digital art and traditional figurative painting, I offer a personal interpretation of a contemporary world in which the boundaries between reality and virtuality are increasingly blurred. Through this work, I sought to merge the visual complexity of digital culture with the tactile qualities and expressive possibilities of traditional painting, exploring how two different visual languages can interact and transform one another.
